Casa Magnolia Blanca – Mérida

One of the many things we love about the homes in Mérida would be the privacy. The outside is just a door and maybe a window or two. Not much to see until you step inside. Many of the homes have gorgeous courtyards and very high ceilings and walls. So you can be in the city and feel like you are miles away in your own private oasis. Exactly how we felt while staying at Casa Magnolia Blanca in Mérida.

The living room just inside the hallway entrance from the front door.

Stepping through the front door leads you to another entrance where you step into the living room. The gorgeous tiles on the floor caught my eye immediately. I love tile design and it is one of my favorite things to look at when traveling. This tile is so pretty!

I didn’t see it in the listing but there is a Television set on the opposite wall,
with a nice Zapote TV stand. Zapote is a local hardwood that makes beautiful furniture pieces. Much to Roman’s liking, he had a place to setup his X-box. On with the tour, there is a door to the left that leads into one of the three air conditioned, gorgeous bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

This is it! The first bedroom and what I would consider the master bedroom. The girls decided to take over this space immediately and we were ok with that. Very nicely done with a king size bed and it’s own private bathroom. The pink touch was perfect for the girls.

Stepping out of the master bedroom and back into the living room you will find two doors just like this with screens leading into the courtyard where the pool and two other bedrooms are. At the back of the property is a large kitchen area in it’s own private building.

I have a slight pool float obsession and Wal-mart did not disappoint. While shopping for some groceries (ok snacks for the teenagers) I found this Unicorn float for a little floating decor in the pool. Perfect size pool to take a dip in after a hot day walking the streets of Mérida.

The second bedroom had two twin sized beds with adorable bedding and decor. It also had it’s own en-suite bathroom and has a pool view when the door is open. Enjoying the breeze from the courtyard is very well taken advantage of in many homes in Mérida so you will find different combinations on the doors to open for evening breezes to get in.

The third bedroom view I caught from the bathroom so you could see what I was talking about with the different ways to open the windows. These doors opened fully or you could close them for privacy and open the tops to still allow the breeze in. The doors to each room had the same features and were all screened. Which leads to a question asked on my Instagram account. We had no issues with mosquitoes this trip. Which was not the norm but happy to say, we enjoyed the courtyard in the evenings, mosquito free.

The path looking from the large floor to ceiling glass doors from the kitchen area at the back of the property. You can see the two bedrooms across from the pool in this photo really well. Nice courtyard to the left of the photo with a gas grill. I particularly love the architecture. Some hanging Edison lights could be added as an extra touch. Other than that is was very quiet and relaxing in the evenings.

The kitchen was rather large and had a beautiful table perfect for a large family to sit around and enjoy a meal. We also had fun playing dominoes the one evening as we ordered from UberEats. Another favorite thing in
Mérida. Uber is also really inexpensive and an easy way to get around the city. I will let you enjoy the AirBNB listings photos of the kitchen. I couldn’t get any really good angles or shots because someone always seemed to be in there. With three teenagers food is high priority right now.

This was a cute touch found in the kitchen. Mérida is very proud of the things they make by hand including hammocks, tortillas and lot’s of beautiful wood and hand painted items as well. Hand embroidery is also still very popular as you can see in the dresses worn by the local Mayan women and the mens dress shirts made of linen. Guayaberas are extremely popular in Mexico. I hope this and many of my other posts have you curious about visiting Mérida some day. It is a very special place and my family is excited to book our next trip. The kids absolutely love it their too!! Thanks for following along on our journeys.
